The Wrong Army

There have been some really encouraging posts about our ground game, and comments that the folks on the ground see nothing like this from the McCain side.

It's hard for me to judge, I live on Capitol Hill in Seattle, if McCain gets 10% of the vote up there, it's probably a good day for him on the 4th.  Not a lot of doorbelling going on, I would fall over dead if I saw a McCain sticker anywhere in my neighborhood.

But, I believe what I see here on the blogs, that we are just staging a virtual D-day assault and the other side seems to be on vacation, or all down at the local Palin hatefest,  Oh, I meant political rally.

I think there is a pretty reasonable explanation for that.

We have the right soldiers, they don't.

Look at the Palin rallies; do you think those people are the types that like to socialize outside their circle, their churches, their families?

Would they feel comfortable going into a strange neighborhood and having a positive conversation about McCain/Palin, as the last thing you want with a doorbelling team is angry confrontational people?

Think about it? These people DON'T LIKE organization that much, they like "do it yourself."

Would they sound like someone that you would like to talk to if they cold called you about the McCain campaign?

Oh, sure, if they get another RR nut on the phone, but is that winning NEW hearts and minds?

They hate  "the common good" so volunteering to work for a campaign? Not their kettle of fish.

They want to spit invective, not have a positive conversation about their candidate.

They want to tell what is wrong and evil about Obama, not what is right about McCain.

They will be great speaking to people who think just like them, they will suck talking to folks not in line with their thinking.

So, besides a money advantage, we have given Axelrod another indispensable advantage: A people advantage.

Especially the kids, god bless em. Those millennials we drove everyday to Soccer, to Karate, to Dance Classes. The ones we told:

"You matter! You are Important! You are all Members of a Team! YOU can make a difference!"

HA!  We built the army of perfect foot soldiers, and handed them to Axelrod.

I'm the last one to get over-amped about a big win, but I think there is a very good reason to believe we got it right this time, the wind is at our back, and that wind is going to bode ill weather for the Republicans on Nov 4th.
